Used twice and had great experience

I used Hood moving for 2 different local moves and both times I had great service and everything went very smoothly. Each time, the guys that came were friendly and polite. My items were completely packed prior to them arriving so they were able to get my boxes and furniture loaded up and moved efficiently and with great care. They started their time as soon as I signed the paper at the start of the move and ended their time when I signed off to say we were finished. I was charged exactly what I was quoted in both cases and nothing was damaged or missing. If I need movers again, I will not hesitate to call them.

Scary employees!

Damaged furniture, broke a mirror, offered to fix and did not fix or replace. Scratched floors. When I called to voice concerns over the quality of the movers and my personal safety (they now knew where I lived, that I lived alone and what furnishings I had) I was informed by the owners wife that they employ people with past criminal history, she stated "they are movers making minimum wage, you are not going to get quality people".

Official company response

We are unable to find this customers name so we feel this may be made up by another moving company.

Long-distance move from Tennessee to Louisiana

Satisfied customer.

I recently moved from Chattanooga, TN to Shreveport, LA.  Hood Moving was extremely helpful with all my needs.  Pick up and delivery went as scheduled.  I have moved many times, and this move went smoothly and efficiently.  The workers were very accommodating and cordial.  Thanks to the Better Business Bureau and their information, I had a stress-free move!

Dont be fooled!

Gave the owner my card number in order to secure my move. My move was quoted at 3534.00 I authorized a 750.00 charge for the moving deposit. After the movers loaded the truck left my driveway the company charged my card 4158.00. They had taken 4908.00 out of my bank account before I even received my furniture! The driver of course said there was a terrible misunderstanding and tried to reach the owner who was not answering his phone. We agreed to sign a credit card slip with the correct amount on it and and the big misunderstanding was to be cleared up the following day.

The issue is still being disputed. They are claiming that their driver/workers worked more hours than they really did. One of their slogans is WEIGHT IS NOT A FACTOR. This is absolutely true. The charge for the truck never changed. Its the hours they charge for the workers. I don't know how to prevent this? A sign in sheet? Also supplies..I purchased supplies in advance because I know moving companies will charge a hefty price for tape and plastic wrap. That didn't help they used my supplies and charged me for supplies.

And then the real kick in the belly. As if the overcharging is not enough a TV and brand new microwave in the box never made it off the truck. And that is at least what we know of now. So disappointing. Just so dishonest. I am disgusted.

Official company response

We picked her up on the 18th her card was not charged until the 20th, it clearly states that payment must be received before we unload. We estimated the hours based on the information she gave us, we estimated 16 hrs and it took 18.5 hours. The supplies that she was charged for was large shrink wrap used on dressers and furniture to keep the drawers on them from opening, the tape she was charged for was from using it on the blankets to secure her larger item to protect them from damage. This is the first time when reading this review from her that we have ever been told about a tv & microwave missing. WE are a very reputable company and do not take lightly to these accusations. She needs to remove them or we will have to follow up on our end.

Long-distance move from Riceville, TN to Sumter, SC

Overall Bad Experience.

I hired Hoods to move me from Tennessee to South Carolina, with packing included in the work, choosing them over several other local movers and all the national companies. Their price was good, they showed up on time and packed everything in a good time. They also showed up at the new house on time and unloaded everything timely, but that's where the good experience ends.

They damaged a shelf in my new TV credenza, misplaced a glass table top for my patio set. The glass top was found later (the next day) tucked behind the seat back in my overstuffed chair, with no wrapping whatsoever; miraculously it did not break. They did pay for the broken shelf. This is still not the worst experience.

They also used a wardrobe box to pack the jackets that were hanging in my coat closet. No problem except that they did not use a hanging bar, they simply threw all the jackets, two of which are very expensive leather jackets, into the box, still on the hangers. It resembled a Chinese jigsaw puzzle with clothing and hangers intertwined. Again, fortunately, none of the hanger points pierced the jackets, so they were not damaged, but it was a terrible way to handle a client's valuable clothing.

When I began unpacking my garage tools (I have a lot of expensive hand tools), I was appalled to find that nearly all my hand tools were pulled from the pegboards where they were carefully mounted and thrown into one large wardrobe box, with none of them being handled carefully.. Again, fortunately, all of them survived except my Weller dual voltage soldering gun. It was near the bottom of the box and the case was broken into a bunch of pieces, rendering it totally useless. Also, because some of the tools have sharp edges or points, I had to cut all the sides of the boxes and all the tools to pour out onto the garage floor in order to avoid being cut. It took several days top sort through the mess and begin putting the tools away..

I informed Hoods about the issue, sending detailed photos of the damaged tools and the mess on the floor. I received absolutely no response from them; it was as though they did not care now that the move was finished and they had their money. The bottom line is: If you're considering hiring Hoods to move your valuable belongings, think twice and then hire someone else. You'll be glad you did.

Long-distance move from Tennessee to Florida

Move went great!

We used Hood moving and relocating for our familys move from Chattanooga Tn to Vero Beach Fl and had a great expierence. We booked our move from Hood himself and found him always available if we had any questions or concerns. We own a business so we were happy to use a local company that always communicated everything so efficently. Our things arrived ontime, and in the same condition which they had left. We really appreciate the hard work and honesty from everyone involved.

Worst customer service.

I purchased a voucher through living social for 2 hours of service. I scheduled my day and time with no problem and was lead to believe that they would be there at the scheduled time. The day of the move they called me to let me know they would be a little late (not a big deal). Well I contacted them at 2 to figure out an ETD and was told that he was trying to finish up a job and should be after it. I called again at 4 and was told they were cross town finishing up paper work and should be there in approximately 40 minutes. At that point I just cancelled the appointment (mainly bc my fiance and I had moved nearly everything already). What angered me the most was when the mover told me that the appointment was not a guaranteed time but a window. What is the point of scheduling a time for a service if you're just going to show up whenever you want. We have moved 4 times in the last 5 years and have used movers each time. We have never had anyone not give us an exact time when they would arrive and them ever be more than 10 minutes late (even when we lived in Atlanta where traffic is horrible). While I can't prove it, I feel that since we had a voucher from living social I feel like we were treated differently and had our time pushed back further and further. The outcome though was I called living social and got a full cash refund. I would strongly suggest you avoid Hood Movers at all cost. Horrible customer service and nothing but excuses. Seriously if I had to chose between donating bone marrow and these guys I would need some time to think.

THE BEST!

I LITERALLY cannot say enough good things about Hood Moving. Prior to this move, I was burned by another local company and was extremely stressed about the thought of relocation. From dealing with Shannon and Hood to book the move, to my team (Charles, Larry and Pookie) the whole experience was stress free! The arrived right when they said they would and immediately went to work. No dilly dallying at all. None of my furniture was messed up and they even set my bed up properly for me. I would 10000% recommend these guys for all of your moving needs!!!! They're the best!

HORRIBLE COMPANY

Don’t waste your time even trying with this company. They low ball with a estimate and then charge a extra fee for everything. They were told everything I had when I got the quote. Was NEVER told that I would have all these extra fees. They wanted $200 to move my deep freezer and $200 to move my dresser. My adjustable bed frame also $200 fee. My quote was $347 and they also didn’t include the $89 fee for gas in the quote. I paid almost $500 and I refused the extra “fees”. I now have to pay ANOTHER COMPANY to move the stuff that they tried to charge me extra for since they refused to move it without the fees. My $347 estimate would have been $1100 just for moving a 600sq ft house. Even paying another company will be cheaper then these crooks. Do yourself a favor and AVOID them. The owner was contacted and was no help at all.
